Swift Police Investigation and Arrest

Detectives from the West Midlands Police quickly launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses. They identified Allen as the primary suspect and linked him to a previous shop theft incident.

A public appeal was issued to help locate Allen, and thanks to information from the community, he was found and arrested. While in police custody, Allen further assaulted an emergency worker, adding to the charges against him.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Reece Allen, who resides on Heathland Avenue in Birmingham, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including:

  • Robbery
  • Wounding
  • Possession of a knife
  • Theft
  • Assaulting an emergency worker

At Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, March 20, Allen was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The severity of his crimes was strongly emphasized during the sentencing.

Police Condemnation of the Attack

Pc Nolan from the Birmingham Neighbourhood Crime Team stated, "This was a completely unacceptable attack on a member of staff in a shop who was simply doing their job. Any assault on a shop worker is unacceptable, but for Allen to have used a knife makes this even more shocking."

He added, "We're pleased he will spend years behind bars, and it is clear the severity of his crimes has been recognised. Allen has also rightly been sentenced for assaulting one of our staff members whilst in custody—again something we never tolerate."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police reiterated that the victim was thankfully not seriously injured but continues to recover. The investigation highlighted the robbery nature of the crime, where Allen attempted to leave without paying before the confrontation escalated into violence.
