Teen Arrested for Attempted Murder in Smethwick Assault

Police have arrested a teenager on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault in Smethwick that left a man fighting for his life.

Attack on St Paul's Road

The victim, a man in his 50s, was attacked on St Paul's Road at around 8:30 PM on Sunday, June 14. He remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition as of June 17.

West Midlands Police (WMP) confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect was arrested in Leeds on the night of June 16 and is being brought to the West Midlands for questioning.

Increased Patrols and Investigation

WMP has increased patrols in the Smethwick area over the coming days. A 45-year-old man who was arrested shortly after the attack has been released with no further action.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. A WMP spokesperson said: "We've arrested a teenager following a serious assault on a man on St Paul's Road, Smethwick. The 17-year-old was arrested in Leeds on suspicion of attempted murder last night and is being brought to the West Midlands for questioning."
