A 17-year-old boy has been charged with possession of a blade in a public place after police recovered two knives in Birmingham city centre. The teenager was detained near Hurst Street in the early hours of Thursday, June 25, and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 26.
Police Statement on the Incident
West Midlands Police confirmed that officers on patrol in the city centre stopped the suspect and seized two blades. In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "A teenager has been charged after city centre officers in Birmingham recovered two knives. The 17-year-old is due at Birmingham Magistrates' Court this morning charged with possession of a blade in a public place."
Ongoing Efforts to Tackle Knife Crime
The force emphasised its commitment to removing weapons from the streets, adding: "We’ve seen the harm knives can cause and as well as taking enforcement action against anyone found to be carrying one, we are also working with our partners to help steer young people away from crime." The statement further highlighted that officers are on patrol 24 hours a day to ensure Birmingham city centre is safe for everyone who lives, works, and visits there.
