A 19-year-old man has been charged with killing two women in a crash in Pleasley, near the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border, which also left a child with life-changing injuries.
Emmanuel Chinyanga, of Cricklewood Road, Derby, faces two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death by driving while unlicensed, and two counts of causing death by driving while uninsured, according to Derbyshire Constabulary.
Collision details and victims
The charges relate to a collision on November 27 last year in Pleasley, involving a Vauxhall Meriva and a Suzuki Alto. Amie Pearson, 26, who was driving the Suzuki, and passenger Chelsea Carlisle, 29, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people – a child who was a passenger in the Suzuki and a passenger in the Vauxhall – also suffered serious injuries. The child's injuries have been described as life-changing.
Court appearance scheduled
Chinyanga is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on November 19. The charges include multiple counts related to the same incident, reflecting both the fatalities and the serious injuries caused.
Derbyshire Constabulary has not released further details about the circumstances of the crash or the condition of the injured passengers.
Legal proceedings ahead
The case will proceed through the magistrates' court, where the charges will be formally put to the defendant. The court appearance marks the next stage in the legal process following the collision last year.
The two women who died were both occupants of the Suzuki Alto, while the injured child was also in that vehicle. The Vauxhall Meriva passenger also sustained serious injuries in the incident.
