A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of an e-scooter rider in Redditch, West Mercia Police confirmed. The victim, a 41-year-old man, was stabbed in the chest in an underpass and later died in hospital.
Details of the Incident
The attack occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 28, in an underpass connecting Longdon Close, Martley Close, and the Woodrow Centre. Paramedics treated the man at the scene before rushing him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman stated: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Martley Close in Woodrow, Redditch at 8:29 AM on Tuesday. We sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic. On arrival, crews found a man with serious injuries and conveyed him to hospital.”
Arrests and Charges
A 17-year-old boy from Redditch was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and has now been charged. He is due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, May 2. A second 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remains in custody.
West Mercia Police said: “A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a man in Redditch on Tuesday (28 April). Police were called to Martley Close shortly after 8:35 AM. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates Court tomorrow (2 May). A second 17-year-old boy has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.”
