The body of a 15-year-old girl was recovered from Kingsbury Water Park on Bank Holiday Monday, prompting an outpouring of grief and a police investigation.

Warwickshire Police, specialist fire and rescue teams, and paramedics were called to the popular family and wildlife attraction off Bodymoor Heath Lane, Sutton Coldfield, just after 6.05pm following concerns for the teenager's safety in the water.

Following an intensive search, at 7.20pm it was confirmed that a body had been pulled from a lake and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Family informed

The girl's family has been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. Police have stated they will lay on extra patrols in the area as the community comes to terms with the tragedy.

Atherstone and Coleshill Police posted on social media: "Following on from our previous post, we can confirm that sadly the body of a teenage girl was recovered from the water shortly after 7.20pm.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed and they're being supported by specially-trained officers."

Ongoing investigation

An investigation into the circumstances has begun, and police have urged the public to avoid speculation. "Our thoughts remain with her family and friends during this difficult time," the statement added.

Kingsbury Water Park, which has 15 lakes and is renowned for its birdlife, has a clear warning on its website against entering the water at any time, including the use of kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and dinghies.
