Teenager charged over Birmingham firework disorder

West Midlands Police have charged a teenager following incidents of disorder involving fireworks in Birmingham city centre.

Police Respond to City Centre Disturbance

The incident occurred on Friday, 19 December 2025, after officers received multiple reports of anti-social behaviour involving groups of young people. West Midlands Police deployed additional officers to the area in response to the disruption.

A 16-year-old male was arrested at the scene. Due to legal restrictions, his identity cannot be revealed. He was subsequently charged with two offences: possession of a firework and throwing a firework into a highway.

Court Appearance and Further Arrest

The charged teenager is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court later this month. In a related development, a 15-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of setting off a firework in a public place. He has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Police Vow Zero Tolerance on Safety

In a firm statement, West Midlands Police condemned the actions and reassured the public. "This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Birmingham or anywhere in the West Midlands," a spokesperson said. "As ever, our focus is on keeping the city centre safe and welcoming for everyone."

To provide reassurance, the force confirmed an increased police presence would be visible in the city centre over the weekend. The public is urged to speak to officers with any concerns or to report non-emergency crime by calling 101. In any emergency situation, the public should always dial 999.
