Four teenage boys were recorded laughing as they stamped and kicked flowers in a flower bed near the Gracechurch Shopping Centre in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday, July 26, at around noon. The 13-second clip, captured by a member of the public, shows the youths in tracksuits booting blooms across the ground while bystanders urge them to stop.
Incident Details
The footage was filmed next to the new Harvey Norman department store. Witness Adam Kimber, 36, said he initially saw a gang of six or seven boys trying to smash the glass panes of a nearby bus stop. 'When that didn't work they took their aggression out on the flower bed. They looked so happy doing it, laughing to each other,' he told reporters.
Kimber stated the boys were kicking the flowers for a couple of minutes before police arrived. Officers spoke to the youngsters and left, but the children reportedly resumed their destruction once police had gone.
Police Response
West Midlands Police officers arrived promptly at the scene after the call. They spoke to the youths, believed to be aged between 12 and 15, but did not take further action. The force has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded. The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield Town Council was also approached for statement.
Public Outrage
The video has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many users expressing disgust at the behaviour. Kimber, who is currently unemployed, said he was appalled by the lack of respect. 'I grew up being told to say please and thank you and to show respect. You wouldn't dare doing something like this. If you did you would get a clip on the ear,' he said.
He added: 'It is only the first few weeks of the summer holidays, who knows how much worse it is going to get. These kids clearly have no respect or morals for anything.'
