A man has been arrested after a bus driver was beaten and thrown from his vehicle in Telford, with the bus subsequently driven into several cars. The incident occurred on the evening of September 18, prompting a rapid police response.
Arrest Made Following Assault and Reckless Driving
West Mercia Police confirmed that a man in his 20s was taken into custody on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving. The arrest followed reports of an assault on a bus driver in Court Street, Madeley, at approximately 6.37pm.
According to a force spokesperson, the driver was ejected from the bus during the assault. The suspect then drove the vehicle along Park Way towards the town's High Street, travelling on the wrong side of the road and colliding with multiple vehicles before the bus was eventually stopped.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Detective Sergeant Taigh Lannie of West Mercia Police acknowledged the alarming nature of the incident for local residents. “We understand this will have been an alarming incident for those in the area this evening,” he said. “I’d like to reassure the community that officers responded quickly and a man has been arrested.”
The suspect remains in police custody while enquiries continue. DS Lannie urged anyone who witnessed the events or has relevant footage to come forward. “In particular, we’d ask anyone with dash-cam, CCTV, mobile phone or doorbell footage from the Court Street, Park Way or High Street areas around the time of the incident to please check their recordings and contact police,” he added.
Driver Treated for Minor Injuries
The bus driver was treated by paramedics for minor injuries, and no other injuries have been reported. Police are asking witnesses to contact them by emailing TelfordCID@westmercia.police.uk, quoting incident number 379i of 18 September 2026.
