Ten Children Killed in Louisiana Shooting Described as 'Unlike Anything Seen'

A horrific shooting incident in Louisiana has resulted in the deaths of ten children, with police authorities describing the crime as unlike anything they have ever witnessed. The tragic event unfolded in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood of Shreveport, following what has been reported as a domestic disturbance.

Victims and Timeline of the Attack

According to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith, the victims ranged in age from 18 months to 14 years old. The initial shooting occurred around 6am CDT on Sunday inside a home on West 79th Street near Linwood Avenue in Shreveport.

In addition to the fatalities, two women sustained head injuries from gunshots, and a young boy was hurt after jumping from a roof, as reported by local TV station KTBS. Police confirmed that a total of ten people were shot by the attacker.

Police Response and Suspect's Death

The suspected shooter, an adult male, was shot and killed by police during a vehicle chase in Bossier Parish, according to Louisiana State Police. No officers were harmed in the pursuit, which took place on Sunday morning.

At least 30 police units remained at the primary scene by 10.30am CDT, with two further linked shooting scenes identified: one approximately a quarter of a mile away on Harrison Street in Monroe, and another on Brompton Lane in Bossier Parish. It is not yet clear if any victims were killed at these additional locations or if the Bossier Parish site was where the attacker was fatally shot.

Investigation and Official Statements

Shreveport Police have requested assistance from Louisiana State Police detectives to investigate the extensive crime scene. Chief Smith emphasised the unprecedented nature of the incident, stating, "This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen."

Officials are still gathering details and have appealed to the public for any pictures, video, or information that could aid the investigation. The motive remains under scrutiny, with initial reports linking it to a domestic disturbance.
