Three Defendants Appear in Court Over Coventry Wheelie Bin Murder Case

Three individuals charged with murder following the discovery of a man's body in a wheelie bin have made their initial court appearances at Warwick Crown Court. The defendants, Tammy Sturdy, 45, Camron Sturdy, 21, and Shane Turkington, 37, are all accused of the murder of 37-year-old Thomas Niven.

Court Proceedings and Remand Details

Tammy and Camron Sturdy appeared together in the dock today, Friday, March 20, 2026, with Shane Turkington making a separate appearance minutes later at the same court. None of the defendants were required to enter pleas during these initial hearings, and a provisional trial date has not yet been established.

Judge Kristina Montgomery KC presided over the proceedings and remanded all three defendants in custody. Turkington, who resides on Spencer Road in Earlsdon, Coventry, and the Sturdy defendants, both of Poole Road in Coventry, will remain in custody until their next court date.

The judge informed Tammy and Camron Sturdy that they would next appear before the court on May 8, at which time they would be expected to answer the murder charge against them. She noted that their lawyers would speak with them and take instructions in the interim period.

During a separate three-minute hearing for Turkington, Judge Montgomery stated that a plea and trial preparation hearing has been scheduled for May 8, when the defendant will be expected to enter a plea to the indictment he faces.

Discovery of the Victim and Family Tribute

Thomas Niven's body was discovered in a waste container in Cash's Park, Coventry, on Friday, March 13, 2026. West Midlands Police confirmed that a passer-by made the grim discovery in the park located off Daimler Road.

Mr. Niven's family has released a heartfelt tribute describing their devastation at his loss. They stated: "Sadly our youngest son, stepson, brother, brother-in-law, nephew and uncle, Tom has been tragically taken away from all who dearly loved him. As a family we are all in shock and are devastated, our hearts are in pieces at the loss of Tom in such a cruel way."

The family continued: "He was a pillar of strength towards us all. He was loving and caring, he loved all of his family, he was a big softy when it came to animals and his nephews and nieces. He was full of laughter and had such a vibe for life, he had a charm that would lift a dull spirit, he loved his music and playing pool."

They added: "He loved small harmless pranks but could never keep a straight face and would break out into laughter. We are so proud to have had Tom in our lives, his life has tragically been cut short in the most cruel way. Tom will forever be missed."

The case continues to develop as the legal process moves forward, with the next court appearances scheduled for early May.
