A topless suspect was rugby-tackled by a West Mercia Police officer after attempting to escape by climbing over a police car bonnet in Droitwich. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, was captured on body-worn camera and has been widely shared on social media.
Dramatic Arrest Caught on Camera
The footage shows the suspect, a 34-year-old man, fleeing from officers after being stopped in a residential street. He removes his shirt and vaults over the bonnet of a police car in an attempt to evade capture. However, a police officer quickly gives chase and executes a textbook rugby tackle, bringing the man to the ground.
The officer, identified as PC James Robertson, said: “He was determined to get away, but I was equally determined he wouldn't. It was instinctive—a bit like a rugby tackle I learned in school.” The suspect was then handcuffed and taken into custody.

The suspect has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and possession of cannabis. He appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.
