Two people were rushed to hospital following an assault that occurred during a late-night disturbance on Harborne High Street in Birmingham. The incident took place at around 11.40pm on Saturday, July 25, bringing traffic to a standstill as a brawl spilled into the middle of the busy street.
Footage shows brawl halting traffic
Video footage shared on social media, viewed by BirminghamLive, captured the altercation unfolding directly on the high street, forcing vehicles to stop. A man and a woman sustained injuries in the assault and were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. West Midlands Police confirmed that their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A force spokesperson stated: "We were called to Harborne High Street at around 11.40pm on Saturday following reports of an assault. A man and woman were taken to hospital with injuries, which were thankfully not life-threatening or life-changing. Enquiries are ongoing to identify who was responsible."
Ambulance service response time discrepancy
West Midlands Ambulance Service reported a different call-out time, noting they were dispatched to the scene at 1.09am on Sunday, July 26. A spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on High Street in Harborne at 1.09am on Sunday and sent a paramedic officer to the scene. On arrival, no patient was found and we were stood down." This suggests the injured parties may have already been taken to hospital by other means or had left the area before the ambulance arrived.
Police appeal for information
Officers have launched an investigation into the assault and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. The incident adds to a series of late-night disturbances reported in the area, which is known for its popular bars, restaurants, and shops.
