Idris Husmani, a 21-year-old father from Walsall, has been handed a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months after leading police on a high-speed chase through Birmingham, reaching 90mph in a 30mph zone.
Details of the chase
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 29 this year. Husmani failed to stop for officers in Sutton Coldfield and Kingstanding, continuing even after his VW Golf collided with the kerb. Prosecutor Ms Begum told the court: "He continued to drive around on three wheels [after damaging his tyre]." The chase continued onto the Aston Expressway, where Husmani drove through red lights and narrowly missed other vehicles, forcing police to abandon the pursuit for safety reasons.
Court proceedings
Husmani, of Earl Street, Walsall, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. Defending, Mr Khattak described the father-of-one as a 'family man' who made a 'stupid decision', adding: "He is only 21 himself. Someone growing up faster than he should be." In addition to the suspended sentence, Husmani was disqualified from driving for 18 months and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
