A man from Walsall has been left with severe and lasting injuries to both of his hands after a shocking knife attack that followed a road rage incident.
The Initial Confrontation
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, stated the ordeal began on Bridge Street around 6pm on July 29, 2025. He reported that an object was thrown at his vehicle, prompting him and the other driver to exit their cars and confront one another. A brief physical altercation ensued before the two men separated, with the victim believing the incident was over.
A Vicious Second Attack
However, the situation escalated dramatically approximately ten minutes later. The victim was on Freer Street when he was approached for a second time by his assailants. On this occasion, one of them produced a knife. In a desperate attempt to flee, the victim tried to drive away but as he moved across to the passenger side to avoid the blows, his foot slipped off the clutch, causing his car to stall.
This gave the attackers the opportunity to continue their assault. "One of his swings was coming straight for me so instinctively, I just caught the knife with both hands by the blade and pulled it off him," the victim recounted. This act of self-defence resulted in the blade being thrust through both of his palms.
Long Road to Recovery and Police Investigation
The injuries were so significant that the victim required an extensive six-hour operation. Three months after the attack, his hands are still not fully healed, and he holds little hope for a full recovery, despite doctors being more optimistic.
Expressing his deep frustration, the victim revealed that West Midlands Police are yet to make an arrest. He described the communication from the officer in charge of his case, referenced as crime number 20/326384/25, as disrespectful and uninformative. The victim was told an arrest attempt would be made and, if unsuccessful, a social media appeal would follow, but he has seen no action on these promises.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "Since this incident happened, we have been investigating and carrying out a number of enquiries, including CCTV and local area searches. The investigation is ongoing and we are working to identify and arrest potential suspects." They have urged anyone with information to contact them via 101, quoting the crime reference number.
