Nottingham Woman Sentenced for Stabbing Incident Following Deceptive Hug

Kirsty Kemp, a 36-year-old from Nottingham, has been imprisoned for three years and six months after pleading guilty to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, March 12, following a disturbing incident that occurred on the evening of October 4 last year.

Details of the Attack

According to police reports, Kemp arrived at the victim's home while intoxicated and requested to go for a walk to help clear her head. During the walk, near Clifton Leisure Centre on Southchurch Drive, Kemp asked the young woman for a hug. When the victim embraced her, she immediately felt pain in her back and noticed blood gushing from a stab wound.

Kemp then placed the weapon in her dressing gown pocket and walked away from the scene without speaking to the victim. The injured woman managed to flag down members of the public outside a nearby takeaway, who assisted her until emergency services arrived.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Police arrived minutes later to find the victim slumped in the road. She was rushed to the hospital, where she required stitches for the stab wound. Detective Constable Jamie Hinks of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the severity of the attack, stating, "Kemp is fortunate the victim was not more seriously injured after this appalling attack. Kemp had asked the young woman for a hug and when she offered support stabbed her in the back."

He also expressed gratitude to the members of the public who stopped to help before emergency services could arrive, highlighting the importance of community assistance in such critical situations.

Legal Consequences and Police Efforts

In addition to the prison sentence, Kemp was handed a restraining order. Detective Constable Hinks emphasized the seriousness of knife-related offences, noting, "Simply by carrying a knife Kemp was committing a very serious offence. The force works hard to arrest knife carriers and seize these weapons while educating people about the issue."

This case underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat knife crime and protect community safety in Nottingham and beyond.
