An investigation is underway after a woman driving a BMW was punched and a firearm was reportedly seen during a violent disorder following a crash in Walsall. The incident occurred on Broadway West at around 10.25pm on July 15, when the BMW was struck by a Volkswagen Golf.
Assault and firearm report
According to West Midlands Police, the female driver was pushed and hit in the face after the collision. A large altercation broke out, during which witnesses reported seeing a gun. Emergency services sealed off the carriageway to conduct their inquiries.
A police spokesman said: "We were called to Broadway West, Walsall just before 10.25pm last night after a woman was assaulted following a collision. The woman was driving a BMW when she was hit by a second vehicle, a Golf. The woman was then pushed and hit to the face. During the altercation, it was reported a firearm was seen."
Ambulance response and witness account
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) also attended the scene but found no patients requiring treatment. A WMAS spokesperson stated: "We were called at 10.26pm to reports of an incident on West Bromwich Road in Walsall. Two paramedic officers attended the scene. Upon arrival, no patients were found at the scene and we were stood down."
Local resident Steve Lal, who had been watching the England vs Argentina World Cup semi-final at the Soho Tavern, described the aftermath. "I had just left the Soho Tavern about 10.30pm and went somewhere else and came back before 11pm. I saw the blue lights. I know the owners and thought I better stop and see if everything is OK. There was a police cordon, and all I saw was an abandoned car and a crowd of people. They taped off the area, and some of the customers' cars were within it. Police said it was a forensic scene and forensics were on their way."
Police appeal for information
West Midlands Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. The force added: "Our enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting 20/326118/26." The road was closed for several hours as forensic teams examined the scene, causing disruption in the area.
