A woman has been left with potentially serious injuries after a car crashed into her on a busy Birmingham street, with the driver and a passenger fleeing the scene. The incident occurred on Witton Road, outside the New Medina Superstore in Witton, Aston, at approximately 1:50 PM on Friday, July 10.
Details of the Crash
CCTV footage obtained by BirminghamLive shows a woman crossing the road when a white car veers towards her and strikes her, knocking her to the ground. The vehicle then careers into parked cars directly outside the superstore. Bystanders quickly rushed to the scene to assist the injured woman.
Suspects Flee the Scene
Two men were seen exiting the white car after the crash. One walked away from the scene, while the other returned to the vehicle, appeared to retrieve something, and then ran off. When people noticed the second man fleeing, they gave chase, with one person heard shouting 'catch him'.
Emergency Response
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched one ambulance and a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team) trauma doctor, along with a critical care paramedic, to the scene. A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed: 'We were called to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian on Witton Road at 1.50pm on Friday (July 10). On arrival, we discovered one patient, a woman, who was the pedestrian. She was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.'
Police Investigation
West Midlands Police have been approached for comment but had not responded at the time of reporting. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are likely to review the CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
