A Birmingham mother has described living in a "constant nightmare" with her two-year-old daughter in a rat-infested home managed by housing association Midland Heart.
Chloe Adams, 20, has endured the vermin problem for 12 months at her South Road property in Hockley. Rats have chewed through wiring to her washing machine and oven, leaving her unable to use essential appliances.
The desperate mum told BirminghamLive: "It's a constant nightmare. The other day, all I did was sit in bed and cry."
She discovered a massive hole behind kitchen cupboards which she believes is how the rats are entering. The 20-year-old is now washing clothes in her bathtub and taking laundry to her grandfather's house.
Despite pest control visits and traps being laid, the problem persists. Adams said she can still see rats on camera footage and described the situation as "the scariest thing ever".
Midland Heart said they have been working with Adams and specialist pest controllers since last summer. The housing association claims recent visits found no evidence of new infestation but will reassess in coming days.
