Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that a 16-year-old boy tragically died after getting into difficulty at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln on Thursday, July 9. The incident marks the second fatal lake tragedy in just seven weeks in the area.
Emergency Response and Hospital Death
Police were called at around 5pm after reports emerged that the teenager had encountered trouble in the water. Officers, along with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, recovered the boy from the water. He was treated at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service and initially responded to treatment before being rushed to hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency services and hospital staff, he passed away at 8.50pm, with his parents at his side.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "Our officers, along with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, were deployed and recovered the boy from the water. He was treated at the scene by colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service and initially responded to treatment. Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency services and hospital staff, he died at 8.50pm. His parents were with him at the hospital."
Community Impact and Previous Tragedy
The police spokesperson added: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and we send our condolences at this incredibly difficult time. We appreciate that such tragic news will be difficult to process as a community and anyone affected is encouraged to seek help and support where they need it. Information on wellbeing and mental health support can be found here: https://www.lpft.nhs.uk/" They also urged the public not to speculate or share unofficial information, as it can be very upsetting to family and friends.
The heartbreaking incident comes just weeks after teenager Declan Sawyer, 15, lost his life after getting into difficulty in the water on May 24. City officials have renewed warnings urging the public to stay out of open water, as the City of Lincoln Council prepares to rubber-stamp a pilot scheme next week that would see wardens deployed to oversee the city's open spaces and lakes.
