Mum confiscates knuckle duster from son after 999 call

Haroon Rahman, a 25-year-old from Pretoria Road in Birmingham, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 23, where he pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon in a private place. The charge stemmed from an incident on Saturday, June 6, at a family home in Bordesley Green, where a family member called 999 to report an assault by Rahman.

Mother's intervention

According to the prosecutor, police received a 999 call from a family member reporting that he had been assaulted by the defendant. When officers arrived and arrested Rahman, they asked him where the knuckle duster was. Rahman reportedly told police that it had been “confiscated by his mum.” The court heard that Rahman was then formally arrested for possession of a weapon in a private place.

Clean record and health issues

The court was informed that Rahman had no previous convictions. His solicitor, Ms Begum, mitigating, stated: “He has no previous convictions. He explains how he suffers from an autoimmune disease and also ADHD. A pre-sentence report will need to be in the ready for sentence in the future.” The case was adjourned until September 4 to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
