A pensioner from the Midlands has declared he will 'never visit a pub again' after being hit with a £60 parking fine at The Plough & Harrow in Fazeley, near Tamworth. The incident has sparked a heated exchange on social media, with the pub vowing to crack down on abusive behaviour.
The elderly man visited the establishment at night with his daughter and claims he failed to notice warning signs about parking restrictions. Frustrated by the penalty, he took to social media to vent his anger, using foul language and telling the pub it could 'go to hell'.
In a message directed at the venue, he wrote: 'B******s. I will never ever visit any pub for as long as I shall live. They can all go bust as far as I'm concerned. Go to hell and your parking fines. It was dark, how am I going to notice any signs? My daughter is a regular there and bought me a drink. How the f**k am I supposed to know. B******s. Great way to treat customers. Ex-customers. I am a pensioner, £60, you have no care for your customers. I will save far more in my life by never visiting a pub ever.'
The Plough & Harrow responded by sharing a screenshot of the abusive messages, keeping the pensioner's identity anonymous. In a statement, the pub said: 'Another abusive message received today regarding a parking fine. We understand people can be frustrated, and we are always happy to help where we can. However, there is absolutely no excuse for abusive, aggressive or threatening language towards our staff — online or in person! Our team work hard every day and deserve to be treated with basic respect. Moving forward, we will no longer tolerate this type of behaviour on our social media channels or towards our employees. Any abusive messages, comments or harassment will be removed and users may be blocked or reported where necessary. If you have a genuine concern, complaint or query, we are more than willing to discuss it professionally and respectfully. Kindness costs nothing.'
The pub's firm stance has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of customer aggression, with many supporting the decision to take a zero-tolerance approach. The pensioner, meanwhile, remains adamant that he will never set foot in a pub again, vowing to save money by avoiding such establishments entirely.
