Oumar Traore, an 18-year-old from Handsworth, has been convicted of murder for fatally stabbing 19-year-old Yassin Alama in a postcode gang-related attack. The incident occurred on Hutton Road, Handsworth, at approximately 5.20pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
Details of the Attack
Traore, who was 17 at the time, admitted to delivering the fatal blow but claimed self-defense during police interviews. However, he did not testify during the trial at Birmingham Crown Court, which concluded on Thursday, June 25. After over six hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of murder and possession of a knife in public. Sentencing has been adjourned until Friday, July 3.
Prosecutors described Traore as a gangster nicknamed 'Omizz' and a member of the 'B20' gang, named after the Handsworth postcode. The victim, Yassin Alama, was aligned with rival gangs from the Aston B6 postcode territory.
Background to the Conflict
The violence stemmed from a social media dispute. Mr. Alama's 14-year-old brother had allegedly mocked the deaths of B20 gang members on Snapchat, including Sekou Doucoure, 16, who was Traore's older cousin and was stabbed to death in July 2022 in another gang attack.
Earlier on the day of the murder, Traore filmed himself chasing Mr. Alama's younger brother around the International Mini Market on Broadway, near the border of the gang territories. Mr. Alama learned of this and left his home at 4.50pm to enter enemy gang territory in Handsworth.
The Fatal Confrontation
Initially, Mr. Alama fought with Traore's friends on Westminster Road before moving to Hutton Road, where Traore lived. CCTV footage captured the two engaging in a knife fight. After the stabbing, Traore walked away as Mr. Alama stumbled across the road and collapsed, suffering a deep through-and-through stab wound to his abdomen. He died at the scene.
Minutes after the attack, Traore posted a video on Snapchat showing his blue and black zombie knife, boasting, 'Look at the meat on that, it's warm, it's warm.' West Midlands Police released a custody photo and issued a wanted appeal. Traore moved between several properties before being arrested on November 23 at an address in Quinton Road, Harborne.
