Leicestershire Police have confirmed that the body of a teenage boy was recovered from Meynell Lake in Syston on Friday, June 26, a day after he entered the water. Emergency services were called to the scene on Thursday afternoon following reports that the teenager had gone into the lake.
Police and Emergency Response
Officers were dispatched just after 1:30pm on Thursday, June 25, to Meynell Lake on Fosse Way. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended. Initial searches were conducted, and specialist police dive teams were deployed.
On Friday, dive teams recovered a person from the water, later confirmed to be the missing teenager. In a statement, police said: "Specialist police dive teams searching for a teenage boy following reports he entered a lake in Syston yesterday afternoon have recovered a person from the water. We can confirm it is the teenager known to have entered the lake and his family are being supported by specialist officers."
No Suspicious Circumstances
Police have stated there is no suggestion of any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner, and the naming of the teenager will be a matter for the coroner. The family of the boy are being supported by specialist officers.
