A brand new park and playground is set to open in Kidderminster, offering families a convenient green space near the popular Weavers Wharf shopping park. The Talbot Park development, located on Worcester Street, will officially open on Saturday, May 2, transforming the site of former retail buildings demolished in 2023 and 2024.
What the Park Offers
The park features landscaped green spaces, benches, and winding graduated steps that connect to the town centre. The playground includes a slide, two pentagon climbing spheres, balance beams, ropes, and picnic areas. Parking is available at Bromsgrove Street car park, a five-minute walk from Weavers Wharf, which houses stores such as M&S, Next, Boots, B&M, and TK Maxx, along with sports retailers and dining options.
Honouring a Local Champion
The park is named after Charles Talbot MBE, a dedicated community figure who served Kidderminster and Wyre Forest for nearly 60 years before his death in 2019. Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, expressed delight at the opening, stating: “Talbot Park sits in a stunning newly created space connecting Worcester Street and Bromsgrove Street. It has been developed with funding from the government’s Future High Streets Fund and the council, and is a key part of our ‘Kidderminster 2040’ vision. We hope this tree-planted green space becomes a meeting and relaxation place for generations.”
Opening Ceremony
To celebrate the launch, Mrs. Jean Talbot, widow of Charles Talbot, will officially cut the ribbon alongside Councillor Hart at 11am on the park steps. The event is open to all. Kidderminster received £20.5 million from the Future High Streets Fund for regeneration.
Getting There
Kidderminster is approximately a 45-minute drive from Birmingham via the A456, or a 40-minute train journey from Birmingham Snow Hill Station. Families can enjoy a day out combining shopping at Weavers Wharf with playtime at the new park.
