Doncaster Council Announces £300 Bonus Payments Through DWP Household Support Fund

Households in Doncaster receiving specific Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits are set to receive one-off bonus payments of up to £300, as part of the continuing Household Support Fund initiative. Local authorities across the UK have been allocated government cash to distribute this vital financial support to eligible residents.

Eligibility Criteria for the One-Off Payments

Doncaster Council has confirmed that households living in the area who receive any of the following benefits may qualify for the payment:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Local Council Tax Reduction
  • Universal Credit that includes the housing element
  • Means-tested free school meals

The council stated, "The City of Doncaster Council has decided to provide a one-off payment to households living in Doncaster who receive any of these benefits." This targeted approach aims to assist those most in need during ongoing economic challenges.

Payment Amounts Based on Dependent Children

The bonus payments are structured according to the number of dependent children in a household, with a dependent child defined as one for whom Child Benefit is received. The payment scale is as follows:

  • £100 for households with one dependent child
  • £200 for households with two dependent children
  • £300 for households with three or more dependent children

These funds are intended specifically for food purchases, providing direct relief to families facing financial pressures.

Additional Support Measures from the Household Support Fund

Beyond the individual household payments, Doncaster Council has allocated significant portions of the Household Support Fund to broader community initiatives. A total of £150,000 will be directed to support Doncaster’s Food Banks and Hygiene Bank, managed by the Public Health Team to ensure efficient distribution.

Furthermore, £100,000 has been set aside to aid community hubs in assisting vulnerable households. This funding will help organizations provide essential services such as warm spaces, local community support, signposting, and advice. The Public Health Team will develop criteria to distribute these funds through regional hubs.

Enhanced Local Assistance Scheme

An additional £400,000 will be allocated to an adapted Local Assistance Scheme. This scheme is designed to support individuals in crisis who do not qualify under the existing scheme due to limitations in criteria, particularly those receiving maximum Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.

The council explained, "This new scheme will give officers the discretion to provide support to those at the margins who are just missing out." Any remaining funds after the above allocations will be added to this adapted scheme, ensuring maximum utilization of resources.

The Household Support Fund continues to play a crucial role in providing financial assistance to vulnerable households across the UK, with Doncaster’s implementation highlighting a comprehensive approach to community support.
