Former glamour model and animal rights campaigner Jodie Marsh has shared the devastating aftermath of a fire that tore through her Essex home and sanctuary, tragically claiming the lives of two animals.
Inferno Leaves Property 'Completely Wrecked'
Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to Fripps Farm in Lindsell, near Dunmow, at 4.56pm on Saturday, January 10th. The accidental blaze, which was sparked by an electrical item, began in an upstairs bedroom and quickly filled the property with smoke.
Crews worked to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread, but the damage was severe. In emotional videos posted to her Instagram Stories, a distraught Marsh, 47, gave followers a tour of the wreckage, showing utterly destroyed rooms, charred walls, exposed floorboards, and a collapsed ceiling.
Heartbreaking Loss Amid Animal Rescue Effort
While the physical damage is extensive, Marsh's focus remains on a profound personal loss. Two baby marmosets, which she was hand-rearing after their mother died during birth, perished in the fire.
"I don't care about my house being destroyed," she told her followers. "The only thing I care about is that I lost two baby marmosets... They meant everything to me. That's the biggest loss for me. This is just stuff that can be replaced. The babies dying has broken me beyond belief."
In a remarkable rescue effort as the fire took hold, Marsh, along with friends Chris and Nicky, managed to evacuate numerous other animals from the house. This included 12 cats, four dogs, and another animal named Mabel.
Community Rallies in Wake of Tragedy
Marsh expressed being "blown away" by the immediate support from friends and the local community. She described how people dropped everything on a Saturday night, leaving restaurants and parties to rush to the farm and help.
"Every single one of them dropped what they were doing... Those that couldn't be here, came the next day," she said, her phone flooded with messages of support. Despite the overwhelming help, Marsh admitted she is struggling to process the event, questioning why she faces such difficult blows.
The property has been left without power and suffered significant water damage from the firefighting efforts. Marsh also revealed she inhaled smoke during the incident.
Fripps Farm is home to hundreds of rescued animals, including emus, llamas, alpacas, goats, and more exotic species like meerkats, skunks, and wolf-dogs. The former reality TV star has devoted her life to the sanctuary, making the loss of the two marmosets particularly devastating.
