If you're searching for a fun and sociable way to boost your activity levels in the new year, a special event in Lincolnshire might be the perfect start. A free line dancing evening for people aged 55 and over will be held at Project St. Thomas Hall in Spalding on Tuesday, January 13, from 6pm to 8pm.
A Fun Start to a Healthier Year
This enjoyable social gathering is a key part of the Get Moving campaign, run in partnership with Yakult and the First Time for Everything initiative. First Time for Everything is a community health and wellbeing project designed by the Royal Voluntary Service. It aims to give people, particularly older or less mobile individuals, the chance to try new activities for free in their local area, helping them to socialise and stay active.
Leading the festivities will be local dance instructor Anne Bedford. She will motivate attendees and guide them through some basic steps and a fun routine set to uplifting music. The event warmly welcomes everyone, from absolute beginners to those with more experience on the dance floor. Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, and biscuits, will be provided.
Supporting Community Wellbeing
Reshma Patel, marketing manager for Yakult UK and Ireland, highlighted the importance of such initiatives. "Being active has such a positive impact on our wellbeing, with even small increases in physical activity benefitting our health," she said. "As a long-term partner to Royal Voluntary Service, it’s great to be supporting the Get Moving campaign with First Time for Everything. Together, we’re helping people discover enjoyable ways to be active, to connect with others in their local community and support their overall health and wellbeing."
To secure a place or for more information, contact the local Royal Voluntary Service activity coordinator, Andrea Briggs, by email at andrea.briggs@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk or by calling 07468 701994. Early booking is recommended, though people can also turn up on the night. Whether you wish to dance, listen to the music, or simply watch, the event is open to all.
Can't Make It In Person? Join Online
For those unable to attend the Spalding event, the Get Moving with Yakult campaign will also host a week of free online activities. From January 19 to 23, Get Moving Week at the Virtual Village Hall will feature a wide range of online exercise and dance sessions. Most sessions are short, 10-minute bursts suitable for all, from first-time exercisers to regular movers.
Celebrity guests and fitness experts will share motivation tips and practical advice on moving more, building healthy habits, and feeling great. It is completely free to join with no sign-in or subscription needed. To take part, search for @VirtualVillageHall online.
The Royal Voluntary Service is one of Britain's largest volunteering charities, supporting the NHS, adult social care, and thousands of vulnerable people. The charity also runs services like home libraries, companionship support, and patient transport in communities across the country.
