Alison Hammond Shares Traumatic Parenting Moment on This Morning
This Morning host Alison Hammond revealed a deeply personal and traumatising incident from her past during Tuesday's episode of the ITV daytime show. The beloved presenter, who was co-hosting with Dermot O'Leary for the week, opened up about a moment that still haunts her involving her son Aiden when he was a baby.
A Heart-Stopping Incident
During a segment discussing headlines, including actor Rupert Grint's candid thoughts on the isolating aspects of fatherhood, Alison was prompted to recall her own experience. She described a terrifying event where her son, now 21 years old, fell off a bed while she briefly stepped away to the bathroom.
"I was traumatised when my little Aiden was on the bed," Alison said emotionally. "I quickly popped to the bathroom for something, came back and he'd fallen off. I'll be honest with you, seeing him on the floor, I was absolutely traumatised. I can't tell you, and he was absolutely fine. He was just lying there. He was absolutely fine."
Praise for Openness and Connection to Past Interviews
Alison went on to praise Rupert Grint for his openness about parenting challenges, emphasizing the importance of discussing such topics. This revelation comes after Alison and Aiden did their first joint interview on Loose Women last year, where they promoted their travel series Alison Hammond: Florida Unpacked.
During that Loose Women appearance, panellist Judi Love referenced Alison's emotional speech at the MBCC in Birmingham in December 2024, where she received the Role Model Award. In that speech, Alison had publicly apologized to Aiden for times she wasn't there due to her career, declaring all her hard work was for him.
Heartwarming Exchange Between Mother and Son
On Loose Women, Aiden responded to his mother's apology by saying, "Yeah it was nice, it was a nice feeling as obviously I know everything she does is for me. It was just nice..." This prompted Alison to humorously interrupt, joking about his possible relief during her absences: "Be honest... you weren't bothered that I wasn't around. You were like: 'Thank God she's not here, thank goodness! Oh, she's coming back again now? Here she is again, oh here we go!'"
The conversation on This Morning highlighted the universal anxieties of parenting, with Alison's candid story resonating with many viewers. Her ability to share such vulnerable moments continues to endear her to audiences, showcasing her relatable and genuine personality.
This Morning continues to air weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV X, featuring a mix of entertainment, news, and heartfelt discussions like this one.
