A 12-year-old boy who lost his life after getting into difficulty while swimming in the River Ribble has been named as his family shared a heartbreaking tribute. Junior Slater, from Clayton le Woods, died after getting into trouble while swimming with friends in the river at Ribchester on Monday, May 26.

Emergency Response and Search

Emergency services were called at just after 2pm following reports of concern for safety. A large-scale search subsequently took place, but tragically, a body was recovered from the river at around 7.50pm. Police confirmed that specially trained family liaison officers are supporting Junior's family.

Family Tribute

In a tribute, Junior's family said: "Our little blue-eyed boy. He will be truly missed. He was the life and soul of our lives. Words can't describe how we are feeling right now. We will forever love you Junior." The family have requested privacy during this incredibly difficult period.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, and police confirm that a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course, reports Lancs Live.
