Jesy Nelson Announces Departure from Music Career
Former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson has publicly announced her decision to step away from the music industry, revealing she may never return to professional music-making. The revelation comes as part of her new Prime Video documentary series titled Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, which explores her career journey and personal life following her departure from the popular girl group.
The Documentary Revelation
In the six-part documentary series, Nelson opens up about her solo career and the challenges she faced following the release of her debut single Boyz. During the final episode, she addresses the significant backlash surrounding the music video and discusses whether she plans to release more music in the future.
"There is something dark about the music industry I think and you can never get away from that," Nelson states in the documentary. "I love music, I love making it, I loved performing but the minute I have to put it out and do all the crap that comes with it, it's then not fun for me."
She continues with a definitive statement about her future: "And that for me is why I personally don't think I will ever go back into doing music again."
A Weight Lifted
Since making this significant career decision, Nelson reports experiencing a profound sense of relief. "It definitely feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders," she shares. "I just felt free of that pressure."
The documentary provides intimate glimpses into Nelson's current life with her twin daughters, Story and Ocean, interspersed with reflections on her time with Little Mix and the reasons behind her departure from the band.
Family First: A New Focus
Nelson's primary motivation for stepping back from music centers on her daughters, who have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1, an incurable severe muscle disease. During a recent visit to Global HQ, she emphasized that her children now take precedence over her music career.
"Listen I'd never say never to music, but for me, my girls are my main focus," Nelson explains. "I'll be honest with you, I've not got time, I really don't. They are my whole heart and soul and my main focus, and I want to continue advocating for them and getting this heel prick test changed and getting them strong, that's my main focus."
Advocacy and Awareness Campaign
At the conclusion of her documentary, Nelson reveals her commitment to raising awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She is actively campaigning for the introduction of improved testing procedures that would enable earlier detection of the condition and potentially save lives.
Nelson has recently launched a government petition to support this cause, demonstrating her dedication to making systemic changes that could benefit other families facing similar challenges. Her advocacy work represents a significant shift from her previous career in entertainment to a new role as a health campaigner and devoted mother.
The documentary series provides comprehensive insight into Nelson's personal and professional evolution, highlighting both the pressures of the music industry and the powerful redirection of her energies toward family and health advocacy.
