Police have launched an urgent appeal to trace an 82-year-old man who has gone missing from his home in Birmingham. John Smith was last seen at his residence in the Kingstanding area on Tuesday morning, and concerns for his welfare are growing as time passes.
Details of the Disappearance
Mr. Smith, who is described as white, of slim build, and approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, was last seen wearing a blue jacket, grey trousers, and black shoes. He is known to have a distinctive walking stick and may appear confused or disoriented. Officers believe he may have traveled to Coventry or London, as he has connections in those areas.
Police Urge Public Assistance
West Midlands Police are urging anyone who has seen Mr. Smith or has information about his whereabouts to come forward. Detective Inspector Sarah Jones said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for John’s welfare, especially given his age and the fact that he may not have access to his medication. We need the public’s help to find him and ensure he is safe.”
The police have been conducting extensive searches, including checking CCTV footage and speaking to family and friends. However, they have not yet been able to locate him.
How to Help
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 1234 of 15 November. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. The family of Mr. Smith has also issued a heartfelt plea for his safe return, describing him as a much-loved father and grandfather.
The local community in Kingstanding has rallied together, sharing the appeal on social media and distributing flyers. Neighbors described Mr. Smith as a friendly and familiar face in the area. “He’s always been a lovely man, always smiling. We just want him home safe,” said one resident.
Police are also advising Mr. Smith, if he sees this appeal, to contact them or his family to let them know he is safe. They emphasize that anyone who may be harboring him or assisting him in staying away should encourage him to get in touch.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
