Savers has urgently recalled 15 perfume products over concerns that they contain chemicals which may harm the reproductive system, affect the health of an unborn child, and cause skin sensitisation. The high street chain, which has branches across the UK including in Birmingham, issued the warning on Monday, May 18.
Why Are the Products Being Recalled?
Savers confirmed that all the items in the recall contain either butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, or both. These substances are prohibited from use in cosmetic products under The Cosmetics Regulation. As a result, the products do not meet legal requirements.
What Customers Should Do
Savers advises: "Customers should return any of the above products, that contain these ingredients and were purchased at a Savers store, to the place of purchase, where they will be issued a full refund." Only the versions with specific barcodes are affected. If unsure, customers can speak to store teams for assistance. Savers apologised for any inconvenience caused.
