Tragic Stabbing Claims Life of De Montfort University Student

Cybersecurity student Khaleed Oladipo has died following a stabbing incident near De Montfort University's campus in Leicester. The 20-year-old, originally from London, was reportedly making his way home to watch an Arsenal football match when he was attacked on Oxford Street.

Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute

Khaleed's devastated family have released an emotional statement describing their profound loss. "We cannot begin to put into words how sad we are to have lost Khaleed," they said. "He was an extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend."

The family revealed that Khaleed was in his second year at university and had been passionate about football since childhood, having played from the age of four. "He was an Arsenal supporter and we believe he was on his way home to watch the game later that night when he was stabbed and killed," they added.

University Community in Mourning

De Montfort University Vice-Chancellor Katie Normington described the incident as a "tragedy" that has deeply affected the entire campus community. "A family has lost a beloved member and all our hearts go out to them," she stated. "This tragedy is deeply felt across our campus and the city."

The university has implemented support measures for students who studied with Khaleed, as well as for all staff and students impacted by the loss. "As a university we create opportunities for people to achieve, and seeing that cut off so tragically is devastating for all of us," Normington added.

Police Investigation Underway

Leicestershire Police have confirmed that a post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest. An 18-year-old suspect arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Khaleed's family expressed gratitude to members of the public who attempted to assist him, along with emergency services and hospital staff who fought to save his life. They also thanked police for their ongoing investigation efforts, stating: "We are struggling to understand why anyone would do this. We know getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves."

The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety around university campuses and prompted discussions about security measures in the area.
