Birmingham Teen's Trust Fund Car Crushed After Dad's 'Test Drive'
Teen's Trust Fund Car Crushed After Dad's Test Drive

Alexis Fox, 46, of Bushwood Road, Birmingham, took his 18-year-old son for a 'little test drive' in the teen's newly purchased Audi A3, bought with his child trust fund. However, they were stopped by police just half a mile from home on Princethorpe Road on June 2, leading to the car's seizure and destruction.

Police Stop and Seizure

Officers on mobile patrol noticed the Audi and ran a check, discovering Fox was disqualified from driving and had no insurance. Fox initially gave a false name but quickly admitted his identity. He was taken into custody for a few hours, and the car was impounded.

West Midlands Police gave Fox 14 days to pay for the car's release, but it was eventually crushed, leaving the teen without a vehicle.

Court Appearance

At Birmingham Magistrates' Court on June 30, Fox pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without third party insurance. He was fined £80, plus a £32 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs, totaling £197. His driving ban was extended by six months, meaning he cannot drive until December 2027.

Prosecutor Ms Begum told the court that Fox's last similar offense was in 2002.

Defense Statement

Fox's solicitor, Mr Stewart, said Fox 'foolishly agreed' to the test drive after his son badgered him. He added: 'The harm is low, it was a short distance, no evidence of poor driving. He did spend a few hours in police custody and his son has lost out on a car which was from his child trust fund.'

Fox, a carer for his wife, cooperated fully with police and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
