A woman who was strangled by her partner in a hotel room in Staffordshire ran to staff for help after losing consciousness. The incident occurred in September last year, and the victim was staying at the location with Ashley Wayne Pointon, her then-partner. Following the attack, she sought assistance from hotel employees, leading to Pointon's removal from the premises.
Second Attack at Home
In November 2025, Pointon strangled the victim again at his home address in Fenton. The victim managed to escape to a friend's house and contacted the police. Pointon, 33, initially answered 'no comment' during a police interview but later pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional strangulation.
Court Sentencing
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday, April 23, Pointon was sentenced to two years and three months in prison. Detective Constable Kelsey Johnson praised the victim's bravery, stating, 'We worked hard to gather evidence against Pointon, which eventually led to him admitting the offences in court. I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in coming forward and telling us what had happened. I hope this sentence shows we take such offences incredibly seriously and will work to secure prosecutions against those responsible.'
Police Statement
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added: 'In September last year, Pointon was in a hotel in Leek with the victim, when he strangled her, causing her to lose consciousness. She escaped to hotel staff and explained what had happened and Pointon was removed from the hotel. In November last year, Pointon strangled the victim again, this time at his home address. She fled to a friend's house and called police. Pointon was arrested and answered no comment to all questions when he was interviewed in custody.'
