A Midlands woman who alleges she was sexually abused as a child says her 'voice has been stolen' after her trial was postponed until March 2028. The 29-year-old reported the abuse, which she says occurred between the ages of five and 15, to West Midlands Police in 2023. Three other victims also came forward, leading to 15 charges against the alleged abuser.
The trial has faced multiple delays due to the defendant's health issues, despite the Crown Prosecution Service being ready to proceed. The woman received repeated phone calls postponing court dates at the last minute. 'I had a meltdown, it all went south. This is the lowest I have ever been. I feel betrayed,' she said after learning of the latest delay.
She criticized the justice system, stating: 'The justice system is failing survivors of child sexual abuse. So the system silences survivors while the accused continues life as normal.' The woman described her ordeal as 'paying a life sentence' and said the stress has caused numerous health problems that have 'ruined my life.'
She added, 'My voice has been stolen. I don't want to wait any longer for justice.' The case highlights ongoing concerns about delays in the judicial process for survivors of abuse.
