Chesterfield Borough Council Launches Volunteer Drive for New 1435 Venue
Chesterfield Borough Council is actively seeking volunteers to help create a memorable and inclusive experience for visitors at the upcoming 1435 venue, which is scheduled to open later this year. This innovative project combines a theatre and museum in the heart of the town centre, aiming to enrich the cultural landscape of the area.
Volunteer Roles and Recruitment Details
The initial volunteer programme will recruit approximately 90 individuals for two distinct roles. The first role focuses on providing a warm and friendly welcome to guests at the new theatre and museum, ensuring a positive first impression. The second role is dedicated to enhancing accessibility for all visitors, making the venue more inclusive and accommodating for people with diverse needs.
To facilitate recruitment, drop-in sessions have been organised at various locations throughout April:
- The Winding Wheel Theatre: Tuesday, April 14 and Wednesday, April 29, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.
- Pavements Shopping Centre: Thursday, April 16, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
- Chesterfield Market: Thursday, April 30, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
These sessions offer interested individuals the opportunity to learn more about the volunteer programme and register their interest directly.
Benefits and Support for Volunteers
Anthony Radford, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cultural services manager, emphasised the personal and community benefits of volunteering. He stated, "Volunteering offers you the opportunity to meet and connect with the community; it can also have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing. Our volunteer programme at 1435 will complement our professional staff and help expand the offer at the new venue, ensuring visitors can have an even better experience. I’d encourage anyone interested to come along to one of our drop-in sessions to find out more."
All volunteers will receive role-specific training to prepare them for their duties, along with ongoing support and recognition for their contributions. This ensures that volunteers feel valued and equipped to enhance the visitor experience effectively.
Overview of the 1435 Venue
Owned and operated by Chesterfield Borough Council, 1435 is set to become a key cultural hub in the town centre. The venue will feature a 625-seat theatre, an expanded museum, two bars, and community spaces, all housed within the historic Stephenson Memorial Hall. Currently undergoing transformation, the building is poised to reopen later this year, offering a diverse range of cultural and entertainment options for audiences and visitors.
Volunteers will work alongside existing staff to support operations and ensure that every guest enjoys a high-quality and accessible experience. This initiative underscores the council's commitment to community engagement and cultural development in Chesterfield.
