Rossendale Ramblers enjoyed a successful week of walking, with lower temperatures and minimal rain boosting attendance across three separate outings. On Wednesday, 19 ramblers completed an 11-mile scenic walk from Barrowford, taking in Blacko Hill, Weets Hill (one of the Lancashire 3 peaks), and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
Pub Walk Disappointment in Baxenden
The following evening, 12 walkers set out on a two-hour pub walk from Baxenden, enjoying lovely evening views. However, they were disappointed to find the pub had closed early by the time they finished, likely due to reduced custom in the current economic climate.
Sunday Walk from Radcliffe
On Sunday, the same number of walkers enjoyed a five-mile walk from Radcliffe, which featured the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal. Although the canal is currently closed, participants observed plenty of birdlife along the route.
Upcoming Walks
Looking ahead, on Sunday, July 12, the group will host a five-mile walk from Marsden in the Kirklees area of West Yorkshire. The walk will ascend Pule Hill before following level moorland paths to Swellands Reservoir (currently empty) and Black Moss Reservoir. In decent weather, the views are expected to be outstanding. On Wednesday, July 15, a 10-mile walk will depart from Ripponden, taking in Ryeburn and Baitings reservoirs, Manshead End, and Great Manshead Hill.
