By Rossendale Ramblers
Can we begin to hope that summer is nearly upon us? Well, the 10 ramblers who were on our 11-mile walk from Ripponden on Wednesday were not too sure, as the weather kept fluctuating between rain and warm sunshine, making for frequent stops to don or doff their outerwear.
This varied walk included part of the Calderdale Way plus Norland and Greetland moors, before returning past Barkisland Hall and Holroyd Hall.
However, on Sunday the sun shone on five ramblers on a 10-mile walk from Burrs Country Park in Bury, which visited Summerseat, Ramsbottom, and Nangreaves. A delightful part of the walk was an encounter with a number of friendly piglets at a farm along the way.
Coming up, on Saturday, June 20 we have another of our very popular and sociable two-hour pub walks, this time from Birtle, on the border between Bury and Rochdale. Maybe surprisingly, the views that this walk offers are far-reaching, and that – coupled with the opportunity for lunch and further social – makes this walk well worthwhile, so we hope you will join us.
On the following day we start from Holcombe Village for a six-mile walk that will explore the area around Holcombe Hill, Bull Hill, and Pilgrims’ Cross, before giving the opportunity to climb up Peel Tower itself.
Finally, on Wednesday, June 24 we have a 10-mile walk from Warland, near Todmorden, that is entitled ‘Seven Reservoirs and the Rochdale Canal Summit’ – so it promises to be a very scenic and interesting walk.
Our walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.75 per month.
