Midlands National Trust Property Takes Center Stage in Peaky Blinders Movie

A historic National Trust property located in the Midlands region has been selected to play a significant role in the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film. The movie, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on March 6, 2026, followed by a Netflix release on March 20 of the same year.

Calke Abbey's Authentic Charm Captivates Filmmakers

Calke Abbey, a stately home situated in Derbyshire, was chosen for its remarkable authenticity and unique character. Unlike many other historic houses that have undergone extensive restoration, Calke Abbey remains largely untouched, effectively capturing the atmosphere of the early 20th century when numerous country estates experienced a notable decline.

This preserved state meant that the property required minimal alterations for filming. Key scenes were shot in various ground floor areas, including the passageways, kitchen, schoolroom, and night nursery. The production team utilized these spaces to create an immersive cinematic experience that aligns perfectly with the film's narrative.

Dramatic Transformation of Historic Spaces

Beyond the main house, the historic redbrick stableyard and riding school at Calke Abbey underwent a striking transformation for the film. Through the use of set dressing, atmospheric lighting, and the introduction of a vintage car, these typically functional areas were reimagined into a moody and visually compelling cinematic world.

In the movie, audiences will recognize the silhouette of actor Cillian Murphy, who reprises his role as Tommy Shelby, positioned prominently within Calke's stables. This imagery has already become iconic among dedicated fans of the series.

Excitement from Calke Abbey's Management

Caroline Taylor, the Visitor Operations Manager at Calke Abbey, expressed her enthusiasm about the filming experience. "Welcoming the Peaky Blinders team to Calke Abbey was a remarkable experience," she stated. "Seeing the estate in all its glory on screen, from the atmospheric rooms to the historic Stableyards, truly celebrates what makes Calke special. It’s a privilege to share this unique house and landscape with the film, and we can’t wait for audiences to see it."

Interactive Experience for Visitors

In anticipation of the film's release, Calke Abbey will offer visitors a special opportunity to explore the filming locations firsthand. A downloadable walking route will be available, guiding guests across the estate to key spots where scenes were shot. This initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience by connecting them directly with the cinematic history now embedded in the property.

The film itself is set in Birmingham during the year 1940, continuing the epic story of Tommy Shelby and his family. The inclusion of Calke Abbey adds an authentic historical backdrop that enriches the visual storytelling of this beloved series.
