Sheep Field Barn Set for Grand Reopening at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in 2026

The Sheep Field Barn, located at the Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in Perry Green, Hertfordshire, is scheduled to reopen on April 1, 2026. This follows an extensive redevelopment project led by the renowned architecture firm DSDHA, aimed at transforming the space into a modern, sustainable venue for art and education.

Enhanced Facilities and New Exhibitions

The refurbished Barn will introduce a permanent exhibition that delves into the life and work of Henry Moore, offering visitors an in-depth look at his artistic legacy. In addition, the venue will host a dynamic programme of changing displays, creative studios, and hands-on learning spaces designed to engage visitors of all ages. New gallery areas, wet and dry studios, learning facilities, and improved visitor amenities have been incorporated to create an immersive environment that reflects Moore's lifelong commitment to art education.

Shelter Drawings Exhibition Launch

The reopening coincides with the launch of Shelter Drawings 1940-1941, a significant exhibition showcasing Moore's wartime drawings of Londoners seeking refuge in Underground stations during the Blitz. This exhibition, running from April 1 to October 25, 2026, marks the first dedicated display of this landmark series in nearly three decades, providing a poignant historical perspective on Moore's work.

Director's Vision for the Redevelopment

Godfrey Worsdale OBE, director of the Henry Moore Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: “The redevelopment of the Sheep Field Barn allows us to introduce Moore’s life and work as never before, presenting exceptional examples from our collection and archives in an inclusive, engaging environment.” This initiative aims to make Moore's art more accessible and interactive for the public.

Visitor Experience and Activities

Set within 70 acres of gardens and monumental sculpture, the Barn offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore Moore's creative journey. The venue will feature a variety of activities, including workshops, tours, talks, and drop-in sessions, encouraging hands-on participation and deeper engagement with the artist's work. The enhanced facilities are designed to provide a sustainable and educational experience for all attendees.

The reopening of the Sheep Field Barn represents a major milestone for the Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, promising to enrich the cultural landscape of Hertfordshire and beyond.
