Chiltern Railways has temporarily renamed Birmingham Moor Street station to Bellingham Moor Street ahead of England's World Cup semi-final against Argentina on July 15, 2026. The new signage, installed on platform 3, will remain for the duration of England's participation in the tournament.
Name Change to Honor Local Hero
The decision, announced by operator Chiltern Railways, aims to celebrate Jude Bellingham, a West Midlands native and key player for the England national team. Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said: “Jude Bellingham is an iconic sporting figure from the West Midlands and we have decided to rename Birmingham Moor Street to support the national team ahead of the huge game against Argentina. We wish the national team and Jude Bellingham the best of luck ahead of the World Cup semi-final.”
Bellingham's Local Ties
Born in Stourbridge, Bellingham attended school in Edgbaston and played for Birmingham City's youth academy before moving to Borussia Dortmund and later Real Madrid. Moor Street station is located near St Andrew's, Birmingham City's home ground, strengthening the connection.
Community Celebrations
In addition to the station renaming, a mural of Bellingham and fellow Black Country player Morgan Rogers has appeared in Quinton. Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #BellinghamMoorStreet on social media.
The station name change is part of wider World Cup fever, with England seeking to win their first title since 1966. Chiltern Railways hopes the gesture boosts fan morale and highlights the region's sporting talent.
