Coming in at number seven on the list of 14 must-visit destinations, Derby is gaining recognition for its transformation into a revived cultural hub, thanks to new attractions, entertainment venues, and dining options.
New Entertainment Venues
The city has seen several additions boosting its nightlife and entertainment sector. Elvaston Castle hosts events like outdoor cinema, live music, and food festivals on its 320-acre estate. Valliant Live, a 3,500-seat concert venue opened in April 2025, has attracted famous comedians, bands, and artists, and is surrounded by bars, clubs, and restaurants.
Shopping and Dining
Derby's expansive shopping centre, Derbion, features designer and high street brands, a cinema, bowling alley, food court, and restaurants. In the culinary scene, Bustler plans to transform St James Yard car park into a food and drink hotspot with 20 shipping containers. New restaurants include La Burrata, an authentic Italian eatery in Darley Abbey Mills, and The Engine Room in the River Lights complex, serving all-day menus.
With these developments, Derby is emerging as a city break or day trip destination, offering a mix of culture, entertainment, and gastronomy.
