School holidays are here, and Birmingham offers a wealth of free or low-cost activities for families. From manmade beaches and lakeside spots to splash pads and festivals, there's plenty to keep children entertained without breaking the bank.
Eight Beaches on Your Doorstep
Did you know there are eight beaches within easy reach of Birmingham? While many are manmade or lakeside, they offer the sand-and-water experience kids love. For a day trip or short break, the AA has named the UK's best beach, located just three hours from Birmingham. The best beach in the Midlands is Mablethorpe Beach, featuring golden sands, gentle waves, and a fairground. Weymouth Beach, with crystal-clear waters, is also a great option.
Volleyball and California Vibes
From July 22 to 26, a nearby beach will host the UK Grand Slam volleyball tournament, promising 'California vibes'. This event adds a sporty twist to a seaside outing.
Birmingham Weekender and Sandwell Festival
The Birmingham Weekender, a free Bank Holiday festival, offers family-friendly activities and entertainment. Sandwell also hosts a free festival on the same day as the Colour Run, which welcomes all ages – children under three go free.
