Over 40 Events Planned for Nine-Day Festival
A week celebrating the creative life of North Wales is taking place in Llanfairfechan in August. Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week runs from Saturday, August 8 to Sunday, August 16, offering more than 40 different workshops, concerts, talks and demonstrations across two weekends and nine days. The event will showcase visual arts, music, literature, pottery, film, photography, needlework and a wide variety of crafts, rounding off with an art exhibition and fair.
Outdoor Painting Day Kicks Off First Weekend
On the first Sunday, August 9, there will be an outdoor painting day in Llanfairfechan to take advantage of the village’s many beautiful views. Artists of all ages from one to 101 and of all abilities are welcome to come and paint or draw; or just watch artists at work and have a chat with them. It is completely free, as are many of the events taking place during the week.
Diverse Activities for All Ages
Activities will include lino cutting, using Canva for creative projects, wet felting, African drumming, sewing a bag, abstract painting techniques and learning how to draw and paint outdoors. There is also the chance to learn about Sashiko stitching, crochet, upcycling furniture, plus talks by local authors and an Oscar nominated, fully hand-painted film about Vincent Van Gogh. For children and families there will be sessions on pottery painting, making cardboard castles, pouring art or making boats from flotsam and jetsam.
Music and Concerts Throughout the Week
The week will include music sessions by Lonely Mountain, Ofergoelus and Hannah Popey, plus a concert celebrating the music of Simon and Garfunkel. There will also be play-along sessions with the Vagabonds, the North Wales Guitar Circle and the Sticky Fingers Guitar Group.
Final Weekend Art Exhibition and Fair
The final weekend will see a two-day art exhibition, showcasing the talents of artists from north Wales, with smaller works of art for sale at an art fair. Local art will be displayed in the shops and cafes of Llanfairfechan throughout the week.
