Queens Heath Pride, the community-led pride festival founded by comedian Joe Lycett, returns for its fifth year on Sunday, June 21, promising its most inclusive celebration yet. The event, which began in 2021 as a response to anti-LGBTQIA+ protests outside Birmingham schools, has become a staple of the Kings Heath calendar.
Event Schedule and Highlights
The annual march kicks off at 11am outside the tea rooms in Kings Heath Park. A stage on York Road, managed by the Hare and Hounds venue, will host performances from 1pm to 6pm, featuring queer artists without headliners to promote equality. The Heathfield Road Market runs from 11am to 5pm, alongside craft activities and a youth cafe in the Kings Heath Community Centre quiet zone.
Accessibility and Facilities
An accessible viewing area with staff assistance, an accessible portaloo, and gender-inclusive toilets are available. The Kitchen Garden Cafe provides additional facilities. The community centre is fully accessible, with an extra accessible portaloo in the car park.
Afterparty and Tickets
From 6pm, the Hare and Hounds hosts an afterparty in collaboration with Hot Flush, featuring performances, music, party games, karaoke, and live DJs. Tickets are £10, with options to pay more to support the community or less for those who need it. The main event is free to attend.
