Rossendale Men's Shed is launching a new bi-monthly speaker series called 'The Kettle's On!' to bring the community together through shared stories. The free event will take place every two months at Haslingden Community Link, starting Wednesday, August 26, with doors opening at 6.30pm.
What is 'The Kettle's On!'?
The series is designed to create a relaxed evening where attendees can enjoy tea and coffee while listening to inspiring real-life stories from ordinary people who have overcome challenges. The initiative aims to reduce loneliness and remind people that their past does not define their future.
Inaugural Speaker
The first event will feature Andy O'Sullivan MBE, BEM, who rose from a difficult childhood to a distinguished career in policing, charity fundraising, and community service. Rather than focusing on celebrities, the series will highlight everyday resilience and determination.
Kris Corps, Rossendale Men's Shed coordinator, said: "Everyone has a story, and some just need someone to ask." He added: "The Kettle's On! isn't about famous faces. It's about ordinary people who have faced life's challenges, found resilience, and discovered purpose. Their stories remind us that where you've been doesn't have to decide where you're going. If just one person leaves believing in themselves a little more than when they walked through the door, then we've achieved exactly what we set out to do."
Community Impact
Entry is free, though donations are welcome to support Rossendale Men's Shed. The evenings are designed to be warm and welcoming, with conversation continuing after each talk to encourage attendees to share experiences and build lasting connections. The charity hopes to build a diverse programme featuring speakers from all walks of life. Anyone interested in attending or suggesting a speaker is encouraged to get in touch.
