A 'Thai-style' water lantern festival is set to illuminate a Sandwell park during the upcoming half term. Dartmouth Park Boating Lake in West Bromwich will be transformed with hundreds of floating lights at sunset on Saturday, May 30, for the Water Lantern Festival.
Festival Inspired by Chiang Mai
Inspired by the iconic Chiang Mai festival in Thailand, the event will feature live music, street food, and fun activities within an atmosphere designed for reflection and shared connection. Suitable for all ages, the festival brings together nature, reflection, and community.
Now in its second year, the festival is based around traditional rituals. Guests are encouraged to write a personal message—such as a wish, a reflection, or a note of gratitude—on their eco-friendly lantern before setting it afloat on the water.
Event Director's Vision
"At its core, the Water Lantern Festival is about connection, both with yourself and with others," said event director Seth Hewett. "We've seen how powerful it can be to create space for reflection, and we're excited to bring that experience back to Birmingham in such a beautiful setting."
Ben Taylor, regional manager at Fever, which is hosting the event with Water Lantern Festival, added: "We're very excited to bring the Water Lantern Festival back to Birmingham after such a successful event last year. At Fever, our mission is to democratise access to culture and entertainment in real life, and this experience is a great example of how global traditions can be enjoyed locally."
