Warwickshire Pub Fines Customers £1 for Using Mobile Phones
Warwickshire Pub Fines £1 for Phone Use

A country pub in Warwickshire is imposing a £1 fine on customers who break its strict 'respect' rule regarding mobile phone use. The Case Is Altered, located in the village of Hatton, has banned children, dogs, and phones, describing itself as an 'old-fashioned pub for grown-ups'.

Strict Phone Policy

A sign displayed near the entrance reminds drinkers: 'Please respect your fellow drinkers. Switch off or silence your phones. All calls must be made or taken outside. Thank you.' If a mobile phone rings inside the pub, the owner is asked to pay a £1 fine. The policy aims to encourage socialising and avoid disturbing other visitors, offering patrons the chance to interact in the real world rather than scrolling through their devices.

Comparison to Other Pubs

Samuel Smith's pubs also ban mobile phones, but customers who break the rule there are typically asked to leave rather than fined. The Case Is Altered, known for its selection of real ales, was named CAMRA Country Pub of the Year in Warwickshire for 2026.
